PaintCare Paint Recycling Program

Washington State has a new statewide paint recycling program beginning April 2021. This program is paid for when you purchase paint. Each container of paint, that is part of the recycling program, is now charged a PaintCare fee which pays for the program. PaintCare is a non-profit 501(c)(3) representing paint manufacturers.

There are PaintCare drop off locations where you can recycle paint for free. Not all paints are accepted. See complete list of which paints are recyclable as part of program. Both latex and oil-based house paints are part of the program. Paint needs to be in original container with manufacturer’s label. Drop off locations might have a 5 gallon to 10 gallon limit. It’s recommended to contact drop off location to verify they’re part of drop-off program and the amount of paint they accept.

Use the program’s drop-off site locator to find the nearest drop-off location. Locations include smaller paint and hardware stores.
